1977

The Beginning

Cricket was first played in Doha in the car parking area of Khalifa Stadium with just 8 teams participating in league tournaments.

1980

Formation of QCA

Twelve major teams formed the Qatar Cricket Association under the presidency of Mr. M.A. Shahid, with Mr. Saifuddin Khalid as General Secretary.

1987

Cricket Council Formation

The Cricket Council was formed under the umbrella of QCA with the objective to improve cricket to a national level and gain recognition from local sports authorities.

Legal Recognition

Resolution No. 13/1996 granted QCA legal entity status by the Youth and Sports General Authority

Legal Recognition

QCA was given legal entity status by the Youth and Sports General Authority through Resolution No. 13/1996, with H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani as Chairman.

1999

ICC Affiliation

Qatar Cricket Association was accepted as an Affiliate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and as an Associate Member of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Qatar's national team made its first appearance on the international stage

International Debut

Qatar made its international debut at the 2002 ACC Trophy in Singapore, marking the beginning of its journey in international cricket competitions.

Qatar won the Under-15 ACC Challenge Cup, showcasing the success of youth development programs. The same year, women's cricket was introduced in Qatar, expanding the sport's reach.

Qatar's women's cricket team participated in the ACC Under-19 tournament, achieving an impressive 5th position out of 12 Asian teams, marking a significant milestone for women's cricket in the country.

Today, Qatar Cricket Association continues to develop cricket at all levels, with state-of-the-art facilities, qualified coaches and umpires, and national teams competing internationally. The vision remains to establish Qatar as a recognized force in international cricket.
